Asda
We’re so passionate about Fairtrade at ASDA, we have a dedicated team who work closely with the Fairtrade organisation to promote their licensed products. By continuing to expand the range of Fairtrade products in our stores, we are helping our customers make a contribution to the cause. All of our products which bear the Fairtrade mark are guaranteed to have been produced by workers in safe, decent working conditions. And because the Foundation’s working practices promote democratic processes within organisations and communities, it means farmers and workers are being empowered to take more control over their lives.

Ehrmanns Wines
Ehrmanns Ltd became one of the first Fairtrade wine importers from the moment Fairtrade standards were introduced for wine grapes in early 2004. At this time Ehrmanns represented Vinos Los Robles Cooperative in Curico, Chile, the first winery in South America to be Fairtrade accredited and only the second winery to be accredited in the world - the first Fairtrade accredited winery was Thandi in Elgin, South Africa. Following Los Robles accreditation Ehrmanns and Los Robles brought the Fairtrade message to the UK wine market and quickly gained good distribution for the Los Robles brand. A broad range of Fairtrade wines were also supplied by Ehrmanns and Los Robles to the Coop for their Own Label Fairtrade range.

Equality Wines
EQUALITY by Las Lomas is a major new brand and the first to be created directly in response to the consistently growing demand for and popularity of Fairtrade products. The range of wines is produced by Las Lomas at their co-operative winery in Cauquenes (COVICA Ltda). In October 2005, COVICA was granted Fairtrade status, marking a milestone in its history. UK agent for the Las Lomas range, Nicholas Ingham worked extensively with the team at COVICA to produce a new, dedicated Fairtrade brand: Equality, whose first range of 2 white wines, 2 reds and a rosé was launched in the UK market in 2006. As a Fairtrade producer, Las Lomas now guarantees to the consumer that their growers will receive better pay and many other benefits to their lives, from education to health care. This in turn creates an improved future for the communities in the region. Creating a new Fairtrade brand highlights the co-operative’s commitment to helping their member growers secure a positive future.

Ethical Fine Wines
Everyone's heard of Fairtrade these days. Usually applied to commodity products such as coffee or tea, there are now Fairtrade wines which guarantee a living wage to the farmworkers in countries like South Africa, Chile and Argentina. Some people are asking the question, "How fair is Fairtrade?". It's worth pointing out that Fairtrade licence fees, certification and audits cost quite a lot and there are some concerns that not enough of the Fairtrade premium is getting through to where it is needed. The Fairhills project which we visited in South Africa involves 11 farms, each of which have to be certified annually at a cost of approximately £1000 each. Licence fees for the Fairtrade logo are about 1.8% of the net sales value according to the Fairtrade website. The good thing about the Fairhills project is the extra funding that the Coop are giving directly to the project. Seeing the cheque on the wall inside the community centre was a nice sight!

Gifts For Life
At Traidcraft Exchange, we work with many gifted people. People who, despite living in poverty, are using their skills to build a better life for themselves and their families through trade. But, however skilled they are, many simply can’t get their products to market, or lack the bargaining power to negotiate fair terms of trade. That’s why we would like to offer you the opportunity to buy a gift with a difference. A gift that could help to transform someone else’s life – and enable you to give something precious to a friend or relative.
