Shopbags

Shopbags are made by women in rural India working in a small co-operative. When a fenced tiger reserve was made, three rural villages were displaced and the inhabitants' income as agricultural workers was lost. The co-operative was set up so that the women there could earn a steady income by making stitched craft items like Shopbags.

These mainly illiterate village women can now afford to send their daughters as well as their sons to school, thus ensuring the village communities a better future.
